Everyone wears T-shirts, shorts and flip-flops because of the gorgeous weather! Make sure to bring sunscreen and sunglasses or even a hat to keep yourself protected from the rays. Hiking shoes if you're planning to visit the volcanic crater. Everything for swimming, multiple bathing suits, including one for water sport activities. There are some dressy places to dine, but most of Maui is very casual.
There are about 25 rental car companies on the Island, which is why rates are so reasonable – they all must compete for business. There is a public transportation bus system that runs on Maui, but it may not be the best option for visitors traveling with small children. The public transportation system is quite extensive and most fares range between $1 and $3 per ride, however a few of the routes are free. Bus schedules are available in hotels and they are also posted on the Maui County website. For anyone wanting to feel the wind in their hair, motorcycles, mopeds and scooters are also available for rental. Using one of these vehicles to traverse the Island is a unique way to see the sights. Most of the motorcycles, mopeds and scooters available can be rented either by the hour, by the day or by the week.

- In Maui, you will find three different sand colors: black, white and red. Black sand is created by the island’s pulverized lava rock that makes up most of its composition. Coral and shells help create white sand and many Maui beaches feature the classic color. Red sand also comes from lava, however its coloration is due to iron-rich content.
- Haleakala, Maui's most famous volcano, is the largest dormant volcano in the world. The crater is 21 miles across and 4,000 feet deep... that's large enough to hold the island of Manhattan!
- Happy Face Spiders are only found in Hawaii. They have distinct colorful formations on their backs which often times resemble a yellow smiley face.
